Thaddeus Jones Watkins, 62, of Windsor, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018. Mr. Watkins was born on December 12, 1955 in Omaha, Nebraska to Elizabeth Ann Jones and Henry Carrington Watkins, Sr.
Thaddeus spent his childhood in Kinston, NC. He attended The Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA, UNC at Chapel Hill, and the Maximillian Universitat in Munich, Germany. He worked as a commercial photographer for over 30 years, and had studios in Chapel Hill, Greensboro and then New York City. He was a member of the American Society of Media Photographers.
Through all the years of commercial photography, Thaddeus continued to create and exhibit art with shows in New York City, Florence, Italy, and Munich, Germany. His work is represented in numerous private collections in Europe and the US. A retrospective exhibit of Watkins' photographs is on display at The William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education at UNC-Chapel Hill through August 15.
Surviving include his wife Rusty Walden, his brother Henry Carrington Watkins, Jr. of Creedmoor, NC, and many extended family members. He will be missed by the many friends and colleagues whose lives he changed.
